Pattern Misalignment and Ghosting: The surface of the residual adhesive layer is uneven and has inconsistent tackiness. As a result, the fabric cannot be positioned accurately after placement and slips during screen printing, causing misregistration, blurred patterns, or ghosting.
Surface Contamination and Defects: Aged or overflowing residual adhesive attracts fabric lint and dust. During printing, these impurities are pressed into the ink, forming dirt spots and pinholes; in severe cases, the residual adhesive transfers directly to the garment’s surface, creating hard-to-remove adhesive marks or shiny spots.
Deterioration in Hand Feel and Fastness: Ink adhesion is reduced in areas with residual adhesive, making the fabric prone to color fading and cracking after washing; simultaneously, residual chemicals may alter the fabric’s original hand feel, causing localized stiffness.

Thorough Cleaning: Before replacing the printing plate paper, the old adhesive layer must be completely removed using a specialized adhesive remover or a scraper to ensure the plate surface is smooth and free of sticky residue.
Proper Adhesive Application: When using traditional printing plate adhesive, ensure the coating thickness is uniform and avoid over-application; when using adhesive-backed printing plate paper, ensure the adhesive is firmly bonded without air bubbles or adhesive overflow.
Process Upgrade: The industry is shifting toward removable work surface films, which feature “strong adhesion and residue-free removal.”
These films are washable and reusable, fundamentally eliminating adhesive residue issues while improving efficiency and yield rates. If adhesive residue contamination has already occurred, it is recommended to immediately halt production for cleaning and conduct a full inspection of the affected batch to prevent defective products from entering the market.
